Riding Waves Guided Paint Class for Kids

Have you ever stood in front of the ocean envisioning the rest of your life, but as you stood there with your toes tucked into the sand, a strong wave washes ashore and sweeps you away? Life can be like that sometimes. In the most peaceful and content of moments there are waves that disrupt us. We are never meant to submit to these waves, to allow them to engulf us and take us over, instead we are meant to ride them. It is in those intense, scary, unsure moments of riding through a current with an unknown destination that we actually find what we were looking for.

This class was inspired by the amazing movie “Finding Nemo” and the beautiful lesson the sea turtles had for Marlin. While he rode the current to find his son, not entirely sure that he would, the turtles told him that we always find our way back home and that sometimes we can’t control how or when we arrive to the place we want to be, but somehow we always get there.

At the start of class, Dr. Elena Merenda will lead a conversation about control-we don’t always have it and sometimes there are moments where you just have to ride the waves. Letting go and having trust in our life are hard things to do and yet they lead us to where we need to go. Following this discussion, Nadia from Art and Soul by Nadia will lead a guided paint activity for them to take home as a reminder to ride the waves and go with the flow.
